TEMPERATURE TREND.

TEMPERATURE TREND

The trend is the inclination, in this case of temperatures, towards certain ends. One of the main consequences of climate change is the increase in the average temperature of the planet . With the Paris Agreement, a pact within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, 195 countries committed to limiting the increase in global temperatures to less than 2ºC above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century.

However, the climate consequences of a 2°C temperature increase could expose 100 million people to poverty by 2030. It may also mean that by 2050 nearly 150 million people in developing regions will become climate migrants. In this way, each year that passes increases the risk that it will be impossible to limit climate change.

The report “Let’s lower the temperature: How to face the new climatic reality” of the World Bank indicates that not even the ambitious mitigation measures that are being taken can prevent warming close to 1.5ºC. According to Jim Yong Kim, president of the World Bank Group, temperatures are exceeding historical records more often.

Current warming stands at 0.8ºC , but trends are estimated at between 2 and 4ºC. That is why it is so important to take measures that ensure that temperatures do not reach these values.

One of the most affected areas may be the region made up of Latin America and the Caribbean. In Brazil, for example, with a warming of 2ºC and if additional adaptation measures are not taken, by 2050 harvests could decrease by up to 70% in the case of soybeans and by 50% in corn .
